By State Rep. Jessie Danielson

As the 2018 legislative session gears up, we have 120 days to push forward policies that are going to make a real difference in real people’s day-to-day lives  I believe every hardworking Coloradan should have the opportunity to prosper in Colorado’s economy, send their kids to great public schools and be able to build a secure future for their families.

In early 2017 I wrote to you about three important legislative goals I had:

  • Pass the Wage Theft Transparency Act to make wage theft violations public.
  • Promote equal pay for equal work with the Pay Transparency Act.
  • Fight elder abuse by cracking down on the financial exploitation of seniors.

All three of those policies are now law and are making a real difference for ordinary Coloradans. I also worked closely with law enforcement to pass legislation cracking down on child predators. And veterans can now secure college credit for service skills, helping them earn degrees faster and cheaper and get them on the path to secure employment. We also held state government accountable for poorly communicating with Medicaid patients, jeopardizing health care, and passed legislation cutting red tape so that folks are being better served.

This year I am hitting the ground running to pass more legislation that honors hard work and protects the Colorado we love. Here are a few policies I will be working to pass:

  • Passing a tax deduction for retired veterans.
  • Expanding vocational/technical training and apprenticeship opportunities so that every student has access to a good-paying job.
  • Promoting commonsense ways to close the pay gap between men and women to grow our economy.

I first ran for the state legislature because I believe we need leaders who will stand up for a stronger, more secure middle class and an economy that works for everyone. Expanding opportunity means strengthening our schools, leveling the economic playing field and helping retirees and seniors live independently and securely.

I work for you. It’s that simple. If you have questions, concerns or ideas, I want to hear them. You can reach me by email me at jessie.danielson.house@state.co.us. My cell phone is 720-276-3468. If you are coming to visit the Capitol, let me know.
