Danielson’s Bipartisan Teen Pregnancy/Dropout Prevention Program OK’d
(Feb. 19) – The House voted 46-19 this morning to take a highly successful pilot program statewide. HB15-1079, sponsored by Reps. Jessie Danielson, D-Wheat Ridge, and Don Coram, R-Montrose, will help Colorado teens stay in school, graduate and avoid unintended pregnancies.
“This program has proven that it is helping young Coloradans stay in school and make the choices that will help them find greater opportunity in life,” Rep. Danielson said. “And because this means fewer teen moms will be seeking public assistance, this bill will actually save the taxpayers more than $1 million a year.”
In 2013, the pilot program in Mesa, Delta and Montrose counties reported that over the previous three years, only one of the 140 teen participants reported a pregnancy.
The bill next goes to the Senate.
